The acclaimed film “Wadjda” had a number of firsts. Not only was it the first feature shot entirely in Saudi Arabia, but it was the first film directed by a women there. That woman’s name is Haifaa Al Mansour and she has recently published a young adult novel called “The Green Bicycle” which is inspired by her film.
“I wanted to create this character who lives in a harsh world, but believes in herself and tries to reach her dreams regardless,” says Ms. Mansour. “For me, I think young adults need those kind of superheroes.”
