Tahera Ahmad was recently traveling on a flight to DC when she asked the attendant for an unopened soda. Such an innocuous request was not granted, with the attendant replying that it was against company policy, claiming that an unopened beverage could be used as a weapon. (Of note, another man, was offered an unopened beverage).
Tahera Ahmad is Muslim, a chaplain at Northwestern University, and has alleged that the carrier, United Airlines, was discriminatory. “There’s something greater to the story that resonates with many minority groups not only in this country, but all over the world,” says Ms. Ahmad.
UPDATE (per Reuters), United Airlines releases statement: “Ms. Ahmad was our customer and we apologize to her for what occurred on the flight. After investigating this matter, United has ensured that the flight attendant, a Shuttle America employee, will no longer serve United customers.”
