Lately, Chicago-based musician Bassel Almadani and his band, The Supernaturals, have been touring middle America, playing in churches and small town colleges. Such a tour would normally seem unremarkable but Bassel Almadani is a Syrian-American who wants to put a human face on Syria to people in the “fly-over-states” who may never have met a Syrian before.
Sometimes, during the show, he’ll share a story to the audience about his time visiting Syria as a child. “My early memories there are really fantastic,” the musician recalls. “One of my earliest memories would be going to Syria and trying to speak to my cousins in English and wondering why they couldn’t understand what I was saying.”
One song The Supernaturals always perform is titled “Lost” which was inspired by the death of Almadani’s cousin, who was sadly killed attempting to escape from Aleppo (be sure to CLICK for the music video).
