Later this month, Japanese magnate Uniqlo is releasing a line of modest fashion — including “streamlined dresses, breezy culottes, and light tunics” as well as muted color hijabs — in American stores. The collection debuted in Southeast Asia to great success. The line is a direct collaboration with British-Japanese Muslim fashion designer, Hana Tajima, known for her impeccable taste in all things fashion.
Hana Tajima tells Vogue that it’s important to open up a dialogue about modest fashion. “I think especially at a time when Muslim women are the focus of sort of more negative press, it’s important to have something that tells you about another side [of being a Muslim woman].”
