“Secretary of State John Kerry told lawmakers the administration wants to admit 110,000 international refugees in the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1,” reports NPR. “That’s up from 85,000 refugees in the current year. [This increase] is based on the belief that all countries should do more to help the world’s most vulnerable people.”
According to government figures, the U.S. exceeded its goal of admitting 10,000 Syrians refugees this fiscal year — the number currently stands at 11,503.
